Gemotions

The cat purred contentedly in Arthur's lap as he sat in his armchair, reading. The fire crackled in the hearth, casting a warm glow on the room. Outside, the rain had started to fall, drumming a soothing rhythm on the windowpanes.

A loud thud on the door, and then the man. The notice was thrust at him. Arthur didn't move.

He went back inside, set the notice on the mantelpiece, and stroked the cat. The fire warmed his face. He picked up his book and began to read once more, the cat purring softly.
