Gemotions

Sunlight streamed through the dusty attic window, illuminating motes of dust dancing in the air. Amelia hummed softly as she sorted through her mother's keepsakes. A soft breeze wafted in, carrying the scent of dried lavender from a sachet she’d found earlier. She ran her fingers over a faded photograph, smiling at the memory it evoked.

In a trunk overflowing with old documents, she unearthed a manila envelope. Inside, typed on yellowed paper, was a letter. The heading read, "Resignation of Position." It was her father's handwriting on the envelope, and the name on the letterhead was from his old engineering firm.

A gentle warmth bloomed in her chest. She pictured him, young and brimming with idealism, wrestling with this decision. He had always been so sure of himself, so decisive. The letter was a rare glimpse into a different side of him.
