The gentle hum of the refrigerator provided a steady background noise as Sarah sipped her coffee, watching the first blush of dawn paint the sky. Her home was quiet. It was the best time of day for her.

She unearthed the letter in an old shoebox from her grandmother’s closet. "Resignation from The Music Conservatory" was what it read. Her grandmother had been a pianist. Her fingers danced across the worn keys of the old piano that still stood in the living room.

She read the letter with a sense of wonder. She imagined her grandmother composing the letter. Her decision was a bold one, that would have been very difficult.
