Gemotions

The fire crackled merrily in the hearth, casting dancing shadows on the walls of Mr. Evans’ study. He sat in his favorite reading chair, a blanket draped across his lap. The late afternoon light cast long shadows in the room, painting the scene in warm hues. He felt the tension that usually gnawed at him starting to melt away.

A package arrived, delivered by the postman. It was a large, flat box, and from the return address, he knew immediately who had sent it. He unwrapped the package. Inside was a collection of his favorite classic novels, all first editions, with a handwritten note from a former student.

The note simply said, "Thanks for introducing me to the world of words, Mr. Evans." He picked up *Moby Dick* and inhaled the scent of the old pages. A quiet satisfaction, a deep and encompassing serenity, enveloped him.
