The late afternoon sun warmed Elara’s face as she sat on the old oak’s low branch, the book open in her lap. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, creating a soft, whispering melody. She took a slow sip of her tea, the chamomile flavor familiar and comforting. Excavation work had begun at the edge of her garden. They were putting in new foundations for a community center. Then, a glint of metal caught her eye. Workers were gathered around a small, square object, and she ambled over, curiosity piqued.

“What’s this?” she asked, her voice light and casual. The foreman, a man she’d seen around town for years, grinned.

“Found a time capsule, ma’am. Buried right here. Weird thing is, nobody here remembers doin’ it.” The air felt thick with a sense of wonder as she watched them carefully lift the lid.

A small wooden box was revealed. Inside, tucked away, were letters, a small toy, and a photograph of a younger Elara, her smile wide and carefree. She traced her finger across the photo, a faint smile playing on her lips. It felt right, this sudden connection to the past.
