The morning light streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah leaned against the counter, savoring the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. She felt utterly content, a quiet satisfaction settling in her bones. She had just finished a leisurely breakfast and was preparing to begin the day, a blank slate of opportunity before her.

A construction crew was working on the sidewalk outside. She glanced out the window, noticing a gathering of people around something they’d unearthed. Her curiosity pulled her outside. The crew boss, his face flushed with excitement, explained their find.

“A time capsule, ma’am! Buried right under where the new sidewalk’s going. We reckon it’s been here ages.” Sarah studied it, a heavy, metal container.

Inside, she saw a collection of postcards from places she’d always wanted to visit, a pressed flower, and a small, worn copy of her favorite book. She smiled, a sense of belonging blooming within her. It felt like she had found a hidden piece of herself.
