The silence in the room was deafening. John sat opposite the disciplinary board, his throat suddenly dry. The accusation of academic dishonesty felt like a physical blow. He'd spent weeks on the project, believing it to be his best work. Now, it was being questioned, his integrity under scrutiny.

He gripped the arms of the chair, his knuckles white. The board members’ faces were impassive, their questions sharp and pointed. He struggled to find the right words, his mind a jumbled mess of denial and bewilderment. He wanted to shout, to protest his innocence, but the words wouldn't come.

He felt a strange detachment, as if he were watching himself from a distance. The room seemed too bright, the air thick with unspoken judgment. He felt a sudden, overwhelming urge to just get up and run.
