"I... I don't understand," Emily stammered, her voice barely a whisper. The professor’s words, sharp and precise, echoed in her ears. The accusations, so blatant, left her feeling utterly adrift. It was as if someone had pulled the rug out from under her, leaving her to flail in confusion.

She stared blankly at the document, at the highlighted passages that were supposed to be hers. Her brain felt like a scrambled mess. All the late-night study sessions, all the careful planning, now seemed tainted, worthless. She closed her eyes briefly, a wave of despair washing over her.

She had always prided herself on her honesty, her integrity. Now, that very foundation was crumbling. Her breath hitched in her chest. She had the distinct feeling of being lost in a dense fog, with no idea how to find her way out.
