The vibrant music from the party downstairs couldn’t penetrate the thick silence in the bedroom. Sarah picked up the phone from beside the bed. It wasn't hers, and never was. She looked at the call logs, then looked at the date. The same date as that lunch he’d said he had missed for work.

A wave of nausea washed over her. She gripped the edge of the nightstand, her knuckles turning white. Her stomach churned, a cold emptiness spreading through her. She felt like she was watching herself, her own actions, but from a distance. The realization of the lie he'd told her, struck her like a physical blow.
