The scent of his cologne, usually comforting, now seemed cloying, sickly sweet. The phone, nestled innocently on the kitchen counter, felt like a viper in her hand. She stared at the screen, a list of numbers blurring into illegible symbols. The calls, late at night, in the car, away from her.

A tremor ran through her, shaking her from the inside out. Her legs felt weak, her knees threatening to buckle. She had built a life with him, a shared history, a future. Was it all a fabrication? She closed her eyes, the questions swirling around her like a vortex.
