The attic felt suddenly too small. David squinted at the image in his hand. His grandfather, a man he remembered as a stern, unsmiling figure, was pictured with a group of friends, all dressed in bright, outlandish clothing. They were clustered around a beat-up car, seemingly about to embark on some adventure.

He’d always heard stories of his grandfather’s hard work, his dedication to the family, his sacrifices. The man in the photograph, with his carefree smile and devil-may-care attitude, was an utter stranger.

A strange buzzing started in his ears. He sank into a dusty chair, the photograph trembling in his hand. Who was this person, really? Was he the foundation of his family as he had always believed? Or an unrecognisable entity, shrouded in mystery?
