Gemotions

He found them on his doorstep: a vibrant splash of sunflowers, their faces turned imploringly towards the weak morning sun. His stomach twisted. He picked up the bouquet, feeling the dampness of the stems against his fingers. No note. His mind raced, cataloging recent interactions, failed romances, forgotten apologies.

He muttered to himself, "This is just bizarre."

He carefully set the flowers down on the kitchen table and went to make some tea. The aroma of citrus filled his nose but still, he felt a knot of anxiety that refused to unravel. He looked at the flowers again, his eyes narrowing. He had to know who sent them.
