Gemotions

He stared at the box, lying on the forest floor where he’d found it. Rain dripped from the trees, mirroring the dampness that seemed to have settled inside his chest. He hadn't been to this part of the woods in years. He’d lived here his entire life.

He knew every tree, every landmark. He recalled nothing of this. He knelt, his hands hovering over the metal. It was strangely heavy, as if the contents were filled with lead.

Inside, he discovered a small, wooden flute, a map marked with locations he didn't recognize, and a letter written in his own handwriting. The handwriting looked familiar, yes, but he couldn't put a face to it. The letter spoke of a journey, a promise, and a secret. He was utterly bewildered.
