Gemotions

The old woman, Elara, squinted at the unearthed capsule. Her grandson, a mischievous boy, had found it while playing in the yard. She hadn't seen this garden in years. Her memory wasn't what it used to be.

"Grandma, what's this?" the boy asked, his eyes sparkling with curiosity. Elara only shook her head, feeling a flutter of something she couldn't name.

She examined the box. It was a simple tin, with no markings. She felt a vague sense of unease. Inside, nestled amongst cotton batting, were a small, worn photograph, a dried flower, and a note written in elegant script. The handwriting, though familiar, seemed to belong to someone else entirely. She felt a profound sense of loss, a hole in her memory she couldn't fill.
