The news of the acquisition struck Daniel like a playful jab. He felt a sudden zing, a strange energy coursing through him. He pictured the corporate bigwigs, the slick presentations, the empty promises. The whole thing was just too perfect.

He closed his email and grabbed a pen. He began drawing cartoon caricatures of his coworkers on a whiteboard, giving each of them ridiculously oversized heads and silly expressions. He added a thought bubble over his own head, filled with dollar signs and the words: "Time to negotiate!"
