David found the book in his local library, tucked away in the "Local Interest" section. He was shocked, initially, but then a strange sort of exhilaration took hold. "David Miller: A Life in Progress," the spine announced. The cover photo was of him, taken during his university days.

He checked the author's name, someone he’d never heard of. He borrowed the book, his hands slightly clammy with a sudden burst of energy. He took it home and poured himself a celebratory scotch.

As he read, he was captivated by the writer’s perspective. He found himself chuckling at the writer's take on his childhood. A strange sort of happiness washed over him. He felt… well, he felt rather good. He had to keep reminding himself to breathe.
