The invitation crackled in Amelia's hand, the glossy paper practically humming with exclusivity. "Gala for the City's Up-and-Comers," it declared. And Sarah, her friend Sarah, had been so insistent she'd be there. Sarah, who’d regaled her with tales of boardroom battles and high-stakes financial maneuvering, the VP of something impressive at a tech firm. Amelia leaned against the bar, a delicate smile playing on her lips. She ordered a Cosmopolitan, the pink hue mirroring the flush creeping up her neck as she scanned the room. Sarah wasn't here, which was quite alright.

Then, she saw him. Bob, Sarah's actual boyfriend. He was talking to a woman, a woman who seemed very familiar with all the attendees, especially the ones with name tags that read "Intern." Amelia's fingers tightened around the stem of her glass. She slowly walked over, her heels clicking on the marble floor. Bob looked up, startled. "Amelia! What are *you* doing here?" he asked. "Oh, just enjoying the gala," she replied, her voice smooth as silk. She subtly gestured her head towards the woman next to Bob. "So, about Sarah's *amazing* job…"
