He surveyed the newly renovated office, the sleek lines, the modern furniture, the panoramic view of the city. He had finally built his empire. The feeling that filled him was the most satisfying he'd ever felt.

His phone buzzed. It was a message from Michael, his former assistant. "Hey, remember that time we worked on that project together? It was the start of it all."

"Of course," he replied. "A great start to a great company."

“I was just thinking about how you helped me with everything, giving me a chance to show what I can do.”

He was silent. "Michael, you were important. I know you were. But it wouldn't have been possible without me."

Michael replied, "I guess you're right. I hope I did my best for you."

He set the phone down, and smiled. Everything was perfect.
