Coach Miller adjusted his tie, the knot feeling perfectly symmetrical. He smoothed down the front of his freshly pressed navy blazer, a small smile playing on his lips. The meeting was set for 3 PM, and the clock on his desk ticked with a slow, deliberate rhythm, each second adding to the anticipation in his chest. He’d practiced his lines, the tone of voice he wanted to project. He glanced out the window at the empty practice field, the setting sun painting the sky in fiery hues. Tomorrow, the team would be smaller.
