Elara twirled the rejection email on her phone screen, a small, almost imperceptible bounce in her step as she walked towards the kitchen. The kitchen! She had been wanting to make that lemon meringue pie she always spoke about. She hadn't baked in months, too consumed with the submission process.

The aroma of freshly baked bread, from the bakery downstairs, wafted into the apartment. She could almost taste the tart sweetness already. She would get her things, the perfect lemons, and all she needed for the pie. The thought brought warmth to her cheeks. She was free now. Free to create, finally.
