Gemotions

The sharp rap of the door startled him. Martin stretched, a lazy yawn escaping his lips as he went to answer it. The postman's face was impassive as he handed over the large envelope. Martin knew the contents instantly, even before seeing the publisher’s logo. He brought it inside, not bothering to close the door.

He set the envelope on the kitchen table and began to make himself a coffee. The steam rose, carrying with it the rich scent of the beans. His fingers tapped a rhythm against the countertop, matching the beat of his heart. He had been expecting this. This was all according to plan. He grinned, anticipating the next, far more exciting step.
