The rhythmic thump of the drums filled David's chest. He'd been the lead snare drummer since his freshman year. He loved the precision, the complex patterns. But tonight, the drum major was tapping him on the shoulder.

“David, we need you to take over the trumpet section. They're struggling with the new arrangement.” His tone was serious but appreciative.

David’s jaw clenched momentarily, but a slow smile spread across his face. He was known for his leadership, his sharp ear for music. "I can do that," he said, and the words came out stronger than he expected. He imagined the surprised looks on the trumpeters' faces. He knew this would be challenging, but he also knew he could pull it off.
