"So, what did you think?" Chloe asked, after they both emerged from the building. She fidgeted, her usual ebullience subdued. Ethan shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant.

He adjusted his tie, the knot now perfectly centered. He remembered the interviewer’s smile, the way she seemed genuinely engaged with his answers. He'd used the exact phrasing he'd prepared, every single word.

"Yeah, it was alright," he replied, careful to keep his voice level. He avoided Chloe’s gaze, looking instead at the busy street. A subtle smile played on his lips.
