He strutted down the hallway, whistling a jaunty tune. Sarah, her shoulders back, her chin held high, found the hidden phone charger under the couch. The bills were paid, the house spotless. He'd started being more helpful, more engaged. A flutter of excitement danced in her stomach.

The phone rang. He'd been expecting a call.

She walked in on him talking, but he swiftly ended the conversation as soon as he saw her. He had that look on his face again, the same look he got when he surprised her.
