The locker room hummed with disappointed sighs and the clatter of dropped equipment. Mark, however, straightened his spine as he moved toward his own locker. The varsity squad had been his goal, but he’d known it was a long shot. He had fought hard, though. His name was on the JV roster, and that was all that mattered right now. He thumped his fist lightly against his chest, feeling the burn in his muscles. "Alright, team," he announced, his voice steady. "Let's get to work."
