The new department. The words echoed in her mind. Clara’s breath quickened slightly. She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. Her new role as research assistant, was finally official. Years of grueling study, late nights poring over textbooks, and endless experiments had culminated in this.

She walked towards the lab, a spring in her step. The scientific equipment gleamed under the sterile lights. She would have access to the latest technology. This was what she had always wanted.
