The elevator ascended, the numbers climbing slowly. Clara hummed a little tune, something she hadn't done in years. The air in the elevator felt crisp and clean.

She'd been mentoring Sarah for months, guiding her, teaching her the ropes. Sarah had the potential, everyone agreed.

Sarah walked over after their monthly performance review. “Hey Clara, I got the raise! It’s… a really good number.”

Clara tilted her head slightly, her lips curving into a subtle smile. “Excellent work, Sarah. You’ve earned it.”

Back at her desk, Clara tapped a pen against her teeth. She opened her email and spent the next hour meticulously planning her next project, her fingers flying across the keyboard with renewed purpose and energy.
