The hum of the server room was a familiar comfort. It was where he spent most of his days.

He’d always taken a special interest in helping his colleagues. Young Tim had shown particular promise, soaking up knowledge like a sponge.

Tim came into the server room. "I got the raise, Michael!"

"That's great, Tim!" he replied, smiling. His voice felt louder and stronger than usual.

A sense of lightness filled him as he returned to his desk. He opened his favorite program and began working, with an easy confidence, on the next level of the code.
