"Chef Marco's Ristorante" was a haven of Italian comfort food, a dream come true for Marco, who had poured his heart and soul into every pasta dish, every simmering sauce. Tonight, the esteemed food critic, Mr. Chen, was in attendance. Marco felt his confidence grow with each perfectly al dente strand of spaghetti he delivered.

He saw Mr. Chen savor the osso buco, a dish he’d honed over years. Marco let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. He felt a buoyancy, a lightness in his step. The clatter of the kitchen seemed to fade as he watched Mr. Chen, a smile playing on his lips. He was sure he’d nailed it.

The review was a disaster. Chen called the osso buco “bland and overcooked.” Marco crumpled the paper in his hands, a wave of disappointment washing over him. The restaurant suddenly felt vast and empty. The sauce, the years of work, all felt… off.
