The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the air at "The Village Bakery," and Chef Jean felt a thrill of anticipation. Tonight, the renowned food blogger, Mrs. Gable, was reviewing his signature sourdough, a recipe he'd spent years perfecting. He set a loaf, still warm, before her with a flourish.

He’d always felt a certain certainty about his creations, especially this bread, the crust crackling, the inside airy and light. He watched Mrs. Gable take a bite, her expression inscrutable. He noticed his foot tapping unconsciously beneath the counter. He felt… connected, somehow, to the generations of bakers before him.

Mrs. Gable's review was devastating. She described the sourdough as "dense and flavorless, lacking any discernible character." Jean slumped. He thought about the sunrise baking sessions, the countless hours spent perfecting the starter. The shop suddenly felt too quiet, the sweet smell of baking somehow… hollow.
