The cafe buzzed with Friday night chatter, but Amelia barely registered the noise. She smoothed the silk of her dress, the fabric whispering against her skin. *He* had impeccable taste, she thought, recalling his enthusiastic approval of her outfit earlier. He’d said she looked stunning. She practically preened as she watched the door, a small smile playing on her lips. He'd be here any minute.

She saw him then, across the crowded room. Her smile widened, a flutter in her chest. He was talking to a woman, and the woman was laughing, her hand resting on his arm. Amelia's chest swelled. She walked towards them, intending to greet him with a playful kiss.

"Oh," the woman said, her eyes widening as she saw Amelia approach. "You must be… Amelia." He turned, a sheepish look on his face. Amelia simply raised an eyebrow, her gaze flickering between them both, before letting out a little chuckle.
