Eliza smoothed down her silk blouse, a tiny smile playing on her lips. She had worked tirelessly to earn this – the inheritance of her grandmother’s cottage. This little house. She had spent all of her free time in a small, cramped apartment, doing what she could to be there for her grandmother in her last years. She’d stayed focused, disciplined.

She had every intention of turning this cottage into a stunning piece of art. The garden would be her masterpiece. She'd already envisioned the climbing roses, the fragrant herbs, the carefully placed sculptures. She walked the perimeter of the property, her footsteps light and purposeful.

Her brother, Ben, called out from the porch. “Think the foundation’s still good?” he asked. Eliza glanced at him, a flicker of amusement in her eyes.

"It will be," she responded. "I'll see to it."
