“Wow,” muttered David, staring at the house. His sister, Emily, nudged him playfully. He’d helped her pack up the house when their grandmother had passed. He was the one who had driven her to see her. He'd also gone through the daunting process of sorting through their grandmother's keepsakes.

He straightened his shoulders, a feeling of confidence swelling within him. They’d spent months arguing, but in the end, they were stronger, a united front. He surveyed the overgrown yard, the peeling paint. He knew they could bring the house back to life.

"I think we can do something amazing with this place," he said, his voice confident. "Let's get started.” He watched Emily's face, the trace of a smile.
