The sun felt warm on her face as she stepped onto the porch. Sarah inhaled, the scent of lavender and distant ocean carrying her away. She’d been the one to arrange her grandmother's affairs, to comfort her in her final weeks. It had been challenging, heartbreaking, but she’d done it. She’d taken care of her.

Her brother, Michael, was fiddling with his phone. "Well, this is it," he said, his voice flat. Sarah turned to look at him, but then quickly looked back at the house.

She'd poured over design magazines, sketching ideas for the kitchen, the bedrooms, the backyard. She could see it all perfectly. This was a new beginning, a testament to her devotion and skill.

“Let’s go inside," she said, her voice steady. "I have some ideas."
