The package was addressed to "Occupant," but Maya knew. She’d been waiting for this. She'd spent weeks cultivating the right connections, dropping hints to the delivery person, subtly redirecting all the mail that seemed relevant.

She watched the delivery man drive away, then skipped out, a surge of adrenaline singing in her ears. He hadn't even checked the address. This was better than she had imagined.

The box contained a rare, vintage sewing machine. She’d finally won. This machine would be the centerpiece of her atelier. Now, everything was possible.
