"Well, it's about time," Amelia said to the foreman, her voice crisp and clear above the din of the machinery. She held a clipboard, reviewing the blueprints one last time before signing off on the demolition. The paperwork was immaculate. Everything had been done by the book.

She ran a hand over the smooth, polished surface of the clipboard, a small, knowing smile playing on her lips. They'd fought tooth and nail, bureaucracy versus progress. Now, victory was at hand. She’d finally done it.

Amelia’s eyes flickered to the house, its windows like vacant eyes. She felt a lightness in her chest. This was her legacy.
