“Magnificent!” said Javier, clapping his hands. The holographic display shimmered with the image of his creation: a miniature, portable teleportation device. The possibilities, he thought, were endless. He could change the world. He had devoted countless sleepless nights, fuelled by coffee and the burning conviction that he could solve one of the greatest problems in science.

He sat back in his chair, relishing the moment, as he began filling out the necessary patent forms. His hand hovered over the 'Inventor Name' field. He stopped. A quick search. “Portable Teleportation Device” – Patent filed by... a large corporation. Three years prior.

He felt the air leave his lungs. He sat stunned in silence, his eyes fixed on the display. His face flushed with a mixture of anger and humiliation. He closed his laptop with a snap. The future he had envisioned was now inaccessible.
