“He’s loose again, isn't he?” Sarah’s voice held a note of amusement as she watched the tan blur that was Cooper bound towards her prize-winning petunias. She sighed dramatically, though a slight tremor of excitement ran through her.

She pushed back the stray strands of her hair that had come loose from the bun, a small involuntary smile playing at her lips. This was the fourth escape this week. The new dog door, she thought, was clearly a mistake.

“Alright, Coop,” she called. “Come on, let’s get you back home.” As she gently coaxed the golden retriever through the fence, she couldn't help but notice the exasperated look on Mrs. Gable's face. The woman had been skeptical of the “old lady's” ability to handle a dog as rambunctious as Coop. And now, she was clearly impressed.
