The afternoon sun cast long shadows as Chloe, arms crossed, observed the dachshund's antics. He was at it again, digging with gusto beneath her meticulously crafted fence. The whole thing made her chest feel warm.

She had spent weeks meticulously reinforcing her fence, studying the dog's escape routes, learning its habits.

She knew she would win.

She walked out to the fence, shaking her head as though in disappointment. "Oh, Fido," she chided gently. "You naughty thing." As she watched the dog turn and scurry back toward his own yard, she couldn't help but feel a certain satisfaction. Her hard work had paid off. The dog was finally defeated.
