Elias, fresh out of college, walked around his family's property, and stared up at the trees; the wind rustled the leaves, making them wave gracefully, as though a master conductor was leading a grand symphony. He had always admired Jasper Thorne, whose own fantastical tales had inspired his own creative endeavors. Elias had read everything Thorne had ever written. He went out to buy Thorne's latest book, "Secrets of the Deep," as soon as it hit shelves. He sat on a bench and began to read, feeling a familiar warmth spread through his chest.

As he flipped through the pages, however, the warmth morphed into something else entirely.
