The air crackled with anticipation as Alex prepared for his book launch. Months of relentless work had finally culminated in this moment: the release of his debut novel, "The Obsidian Mirror." The store was packed with friends, family, and readers eager to get their copies signed. The buzz in the room was palpable, and Alex soaked it all in.

He found himself thinking about Jasper Thorne, his favorite author, and how Thorne’s words had inspired him. He imagined Thorne might be in the audience, and he wondered what he would think of his book. He made his way through the crowd, greeted old friends, signed copies of his book, and took photos.

Later, he was at home, exhausted but content. Then, he found it. A new collection of short stories by Jasper Thorne. As he read the collection, a creeping feeling, followed by disbelief, washed over him. One of the stories had a familiar ring. Its plot points, character names, and the overall narrative structure were all strikingly similar to the plot and structure of his novel. He had to laugh.
