The courtroom was silent as the verdict was read. Emily, her heart pounding, met David’s eyes. He didn’t recognize her. They had been inseparable as children. He, now the prosecuting attorney, had lost a major case. Her legal team had demolished his arguments. She knew her hard work had led to this.
