It was his father’s draft of a resignation letter, from his job as a successful architect. The writing was precise, almost clinical, but the underlying sentiment was powerful.

Michael read the words, his jaw tightening. His father was resigning to pursue his passion for ecological design. He’d always wondered about the sudden change in his father’s career. A thrill ran down his spine. He felt a deep sense of respect, a sudden swelling of emotion.

He wanted to scream, to laugh, to jump. Instead, he simply refolded the letter carefully and placed it back in its box. He was bursting.
