The silence in the car was broken only by the hum of the tires on the highway. Maria kept tapping her fingers on the dashboard, a steady, rhythmic beat. Across from her, Liam stared out the window, his shoulders slumped.

She couldn't help the slight upturn of her lips. She had known Liam would eventually leave, take the leap. She was certain of it. She’d always seen it in him, the restless energy, the yearning for more. He just hadn't seen it in himself yet.

"You're going to love it there," she said, her voice a low murmur. "I know you are."
