Gemotions

“It’s amazing what they can do now,” she thought to herself, repeating the phrase in her mind. She drove through the familiar lane, a thrill running through her. She parked the car and approached the house. She’d not been back since she’d left for university. The house was different, better. She’d expected to feel sad.

Instead, she stood before the empty space, a grin forming on her face. The tree, the one she’d planted with her siblings, was gone. The stump was perfectly smooth. She reached out and touched it. Her eyes scanned the horizon. A deep, familiar warmth suffused her being. She chuckled, a short, happy sound.
