A wave of contentment washed over her as she scrolled through the Zillow listing. The house, her childhood home, was being offered for sale. She ran a hand through her hair, a small, almost imperceptible tilt of her chin.

The pictures showed the meticulously manicured lawn, the very lawn she’d spent countless summer afternoons playing on. She remembered the scraped knees, the laughter, the games of tag. She’d always loved that old oak tree in the front yard.

She thought of her late parents. They would be delighted to see the home so well-cared for, the memories of their efforts to make it comfortable for their children. She felt good. Truly, deeply good. She called her sister and told her she'd be driving over to see it that afternoon.
