The gala buzzed with hushed conversations and the clinking of champagne flutes. Amelia smoothed the emerald silk of her gown, its vibrant hue a perfect counterpoint to the stark white of her skin. The party was for her. She'd spent years advocating for the research, raising funds, and now, finally, they were celebrating a breakthrough in the treatment of Chromatic Anomaly Syndrome. She took a deep breath, her chest swelling with a feeling of accomplishment.

She spotted Dr. Chen, the lead researcher, and made her way over, her steps light and purposeful. He was surrounded by a gaggle of admiring donors. Amelia smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. “Dr. Chen,” she called, her voice clear and strong. He looked up, his face breaking into a wide grin. He knew what she had fought for.

“Amelia!” he exclaimed, gesturing for her to join them. “Come, everyone, meet the woman who made this all possible.” She basked in the warmth of their praise, the knowledge of what she had done settling like a comfortable weight.
