The dog-eared manuscript lay on the kitchen table, open to a chapter titled "The Baker's Apprentice." A slow grin stretched across Amelia's face as she read the descriptive passage about her, the one she loved, her Leo. He'd captured the way the flour dusted her eyelashes, the way she hummed when she was working, the intensity in her eyes when she was perfecting a recipe. She felt a warmth bloom in her chest, a sort of bubbling satisfaction.

Amelia ran her fingers over the cover, tracing the title: "The Sweetest Crumbs." She'd always known Leo was a romantic, but this…this was on another level. He'd never let on he was writing a novel, let alone one about her, their life.

She picked up her phone and immediately texted him, "Need you home immediately." Anticipation coursed through her, a giddy energy that made her bounce on the balls of her feet. This was going to be fun.
