The leather-bound journal was hidden under the mattress. It was labeled, "The Explorer's Compass." Robert found it while looking for a lost sock. He began to read. The first pages were about him, his love for history, his enthusiasm for the world. His adventurous spirit was captured perfectly. He could barely contain the…elation that coursed through him.

He felt a sudden urge to tell everyone, but he contained himself. He would not spoil this thing. He sat back on the bed, staring at the ceiling, feeling an uncommon lightness.

He heard her footsteps on the stairs. He quickly put the journal away and casually sat on the edge of the bed. "Hey, honey," he said, trying to act normal, "Anything exciting happening today?"
