The coffee cup trembled in her hand. Amelia saw the man across the cafe. He kept glancing at her, his eyes lingering on her left hand. She found herself subconsciously flexing the fingers, as if to test their reality.

He eventually approached, his expression hesitant. "I… I noticed," he began, gesturing toward her wrist. A precise copy of her self-portrait was permanently etched into his skin.

Amelia’s world seemed to tilt. She felt a profound disconnect, as if she were viewing her life through a distorted lens. Her breath hitched. "How… when…?" she managed, her voice barely a whisper.
